Summiting Your "Schweitzer" Is Doable

 

On Saturday, I hiked up the famous Schweitzer Mountain here in north Idaho at sunrise...which means I was at the foot of the mountain at 4:45 a.m., mind you (got up at 3 to make the 1.5 hour drive). I chose sunrise because I am entering into a new relationship with the sun (more on this soon). I wanted to be there to greet it as it rose over the horizon in such a breathtaking, familiar setting. I'm sure you can see from the video footage why this is truly one of my favorite hikes, and I try to do it several times a summer.

You can take many different trails on all sides of the mountain. They are all uniquely difficult and challenging—some steeper, some longer, some rockier, etc. And any given day, the conditions make it a different mountain to climb altogether, regardless of path you take.
