Creating Your Best Life with the (Real) Law of Attraction

If you find yourself resisting this blog title, give it a chance. Find out how my mind has changed toward this teaching in the past year and why...

What if you really could change your life with your thoughts and words, and what if the adage, “words become things,” had some merit? What if your desires and intentions truly are powerful enough to create and shape the life of your dreams? What would you do with that information...would you put it to use it to become a powerful force of good on this planet for yourself and others, or would you squander it away on a dark shelf in back of the closet?

Until this past year, I have always been skeptical of the Law of Attraction and here’s why. I don’t buy into things that aren’t able to benefit everyone equally. I have come to believe that if the Universe or the Great Mystery (God) is indeed good and loves all of its children equally, then all of those children should have equal access to...

Are Your Healing Efforts Blocked?

There is a lot of information out there today about how to tap into spiritual power in order to heal your body through meditation. In fact, it appears you can save yourself years and great sums of money with some deep meditation techniques that tap into spirit and perhaps into the healing wisdom of the cells. I believe it works, and I only wish I’d known about it myself a few years ago before I took the long, costly, uphill road.

Meditation, along with water fasting and a plant-based diet are the only scientifically proven modalities (that I know of) for increasing longevity and anti-aging. So there is definitely good science about why this is an effective practice. And if you’re like me, and you want to know how it works, I recommend the works of people like Joe Dispenza (Becoming Supernatural and the video series, Rewired), or Bruce Lipton (Biology of Belief), or Greg Braden (The Science of Self-Empowerment and Divine Matrix). They offer both the science...

Moving Beyond the Suffering Narrative

Have you been living in only the first half of a Story, one that elevates suffering and loss above blissful empowerment and gain?

Do you ever feel guilty or unworthy entertaining the idea that you deserve to be happy, free, and successful at whatever you do? Or perhaps you have bought into a belief that life should always be a struggle or else you’re not doing something right? If your life and worldview was shaped anything like mine, you may be unconsciously living in a personal story that stagnates, disempowers, stalls, and in some cases prevents your happiness, health, vibrancy, connectedness with others, financial freedom, innate creativity, and personal power. I call it the “suffering narrative.”

Where did this idea come from? Namely, in most cases, misguided religious teachings that fail to transform people. For me personally, this phenomenon is primarily tied to my conservative Evangelical Christian roots. It wasn’t...

3 Fears That Sabotage Your Dreams Part 3

This is our final post of a three part series about fears that sabotage our God-given dreams. What this means exactly, is that God knows the dreams of our hearts, and when He/She sets out to fulfill them, we are put through a season of preparation that often includes some pretty hefty and serious actions on our part. This final week, we explore the fear of suffering: will I suffer too much for following an extreme God-given directive in my life? Will I have the courage to see it through?

Previously, we covered the fears, will it cost me too much, and will it be disappointing?

I hope you enjoy this last and most difficult fear I faced (in my whole life), as well as the deeply important lessons and worthwhile outcomes I experienced through this nearly ten-year journey of following the will of God when it seemed completely off the rails and impossible to do. You definitely won't want to miss this!

I would love to hear your thoughts about this post. Have...

3 Fears That Sabotage Your Dreams Part 2

In my last post, I shared a story from my life about God asking me to give up something extravagant in order to experience empowering transformation in my life (and therefore not missing out on some amazing results ever since!). In order to follow my heart, I told you about how I had to face—no, tackle—the fear of loss or giving up too much. This week I want to tell you about another fear equally difficult to overcome.

Please remember…the fears we are addressing here are all intertwined and can happen simultaneously in these situations. So much so that they feel like the same fear. It’s really like one fear with many faces or voices.

#2. Fear of disappointment. I mean, when God convincingly asks us to do something completely counter to the rational mind and to the opinions of everyone we know, with no real guarantees of a payoff, another huge battle for me is the fear that, at worst I will be sorry I did it, and at best I will not inspired by...

3 Fears That Sabotage Your Dreams Part 1

“In between here, the person that you have always been, and here, the person that you know you must someday become, lies a vast, wild, dangerous, unexplored territory that you are going to have to figure out how to navigate safely. The only way I’ve seen anyone get from here to there with their dignity, and their soul, and their perspective intact,is when they decide to regard that journey as a great and epic quest…as the single most important mission of their life. Once you cross that barrier into the new, you can never go back.” ~Elizabeth Gilbert

Have you ever been presented with a massive opportunity (or Heavenly directive!) for change, but you couldn’t bring yourself to go through with it? (Or perhaps you did go through with it and in that case I would love to hear more in the comments about the outcome). You are not alone! This is the epic battle of being human with divine-spark potential. It’s that age-old battle of fear, wrestling our...

Empowerment Quest: What It Is...And Is Not

Have you ever heard about how elephants are indoctrinated into captivity in places like India or Thailand? When the elephant is very young and impressionable, the captors fasten a heavy chain around its leg and stake it into the ground. Every time the young elephant pulls against it, the sharp, cutting pain teaches it over a relatively short time that it is a captive. When it becomes an adult, this massive animal is perfectly capable of pulling out any little stake in the ground and running off to freedom...but it doesn't realize this. All the captors have to do at this point is leave the chain on the elephant's leg—a stake is not even necessary. Just the feeling of the chain is enough to trigger the elephant’s belief that it is captive and that there is pain associated with attempts at freedom. The elephant remembers…

In the insightful book I recently read, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, he demonstrates early on in the book that we are...

New Agreements for Liberation & Happiness

“Ninety-five percent of the beliefs we have stored in our minds are nothing but lies...We trust what we believe, and our beliefs set us up for suffering.” Don Ruiz

I recently read The Four Agreements by Don Ruiz, which offers some ancient wisdom from the Toltec tradition. Check out my video review on these four “new" agreements you can make with yourself to begin reforming your daily reality with positivity, empowerment, and transformation. You will enjoy this book if you…

  • Struggle with many fears in your life but you don’t know why or what to do about them
  • Frequently find yourself focused on negative thinking or speech
  • Tend to assume what other people are thinking or feeling
  • Tend to react to life rather than be prepared with empowered responses
  • Feel stuck and desire a new frame of reference for your life

As you listen to the video, I would like to hear from you. What fears do you recognize as being culturally conditioned from...

One "Yes" Away from Amazed (and Amazing)

It doesn't seem that long ago that I was bound up in fear and lack of belief in myself.

I have to admit that I cried when I watched this video back before uploading. It is really emotional, watching myself process my inner journey of overcoming fear, growth, discovery, becoming, and trust—and oh how scared I was to trust—and ultimately how it has translated in my every day reality. If you’ve never experienced such a profound inner revolution against your doubts and fears, I hope you will keep reading (and watching).

I have (and I believe we all have) these crossroads over the course of my life where I felt a strong sense of being directed to do crazy-ass stuff! I mean REALLY CRAZY! Like, once my husband and I were inwardly and simultaneously directed to sell a big, beautiful house in the country that we had just built with all our best efforts over the course of 4 years, and to give most of the large amount of equity away to orphan...

Talking to Your Car Can Make You Happier!

Today’s post comes on the heels of yet another move in the Ferwerda household, as you can see by the empty room behind me (while working on this post). We just moved into this cute little condo last June—a beautiful little abode in a tranquil spot on a lake and golf course community—but now here we are, pulling up the shallow roots again. All of this got me thinking about the many ways that I'm grateful for our different homes over the past few years. It also brings up one of the weird ways I express my gratitude...

I have developed what some people might think of as an embarrassing or silly habit in recent years—talking to certain belongings while even projecting human traits and emotions on them, as if they are people! This eccentric practice is known as anthropomorphism.

Good news! Apparently, moderate amounts of anthropomorphism has some positive results in our lives (exceeding moderate amounts will get you a trip to the psych unit), the most...
