Get a *Free Vacation* (and a Great, Healthy Smile) ...in Mexico!

Uncategorized Aug 05, 2019

I missed posting last week because, well, I’m engaging in medical tourism! Yep, I’m currently in Cancun getting some important dental work done!

Wait! Isn’t that dangerous? Aren’t you going to get raped and murdered on the beach—or the very least kidnapped and held hostage? Are your teeth going to get a hack job? Aren’t you being irresponsible?

Okay, I voiced all the typical concerns and objections. Now back to reality!

I started this Mexico dental journey 19 months ago with a holistic dental clinic in Tijuana (picture from our hotel room where the clinic is located). This was after discovering how my body was being overwhelmed by toxins (namely mercury) and pathogens (bad bugs) from years of amalgam (silver) fillings, and about a decade of acquiring 3 root canals. I found this out while seeking an evaluation by a Naturopathic doctor for fatigue/low energy, pain, frequent heart palpitations,...

One "Yes" Away from Amazed (and Amazing)

It doesn't seem that long ago that I was bound up in fear and lack of belief in myself.

I have to admit that I cried when I watched this video back before uploading. It is really emotional, watching myself process my inner journey of overcoming fear, growth, discovery, becoming, and trust—and oh how scared I was to trust—and ultimately how it has translated in my every day reality. If you’ve never experienced such a profound inner revolution against your doubts and fears, I hope you will keep reading (and watching).

I have (and I believe we all have) these crossroads over the course of my life where I felt a strong sense of being directed to do crazy-ass stuff! I mean REALLY CRAZY! Like, once my husband and I were inwardly and simultaneously directed to sell a big, beautiful house in the country that we had just built with all our best efforts over the course of 4 years, and to give most of the large amount of equity away to orphan...

Summiting Your "Schweitzer" Is Doable

On Saturday, I hiked up the famous Schweitzer Mountain here in north Idaho at sunrise...which means I was at the foot of the mountain at 4:45 a.m., mind you (got up at 3 to make the 1.5 hour drive). I chose sunrise because I am entering into a new relationship with the sun (more on this soon). I wanted to be there to greet it as it rose over the horizon in such a breathtaking, familiar setting. I'm sure you can see from the video footage why this is truly one of my favorite hikes, and I try to do it several times a summer.

You can take many different trails on all sides of the mountain. They are all uniquely difficult and challenging—some steeper, some longer, some rockier, etc. And any given day, the conditions make it a different mountain to climb altogether, regardless of path you take. But the fact is, they all lead to the same place—the summit! The summit is where you can finally enjoy the perspective you never had before while down in the...

Talking to Your Car Can Make You Happier!

Today’s post comes on the heels of yet another move in the Ferwerda household, as you can see by the empty room behind me (while working on this post). We just moved into this cute little condo last June—a beautiful little abode in a tranquil spot on a lake and golf course community—but now here we are, pulling up the shallow roots again. All of this got me thinking about the many ways that I'm grateful for our different homes over the past few years. It also brings up one of the weird ways I express my gratitude...

I have developed what some people might think of as an embarrassing or silly habit in recent years—talking to certain belongings while even projecting human traits and emotions on them, as if they are people! This eccentric practice is known as anthropomorphism.

Good news! Apparently, moderate amounts of anthropomorphism has some positive results in our lives (exceeding moderate amounts will get you a trip to the psych unit), the most...

Watch this 5 minute video clip to find out more about why you should adamantly reject the well meaning but very misguided belief that your character is only as good as your worst behaviors.

Over the coming weeks, I'll be adding more content and I hope you'll find it inspiring in regard to your own journey! I would love to hear your thoughts and you can contact me with questions through my Connect page.

Happy 4th. Be safe. Be free. And know that you are awesome with all the messiness and loveliness! You are as good as your best day!

Are You a Victim of Your Genes?

Is your health and lifespan determined by your genes? Are you destined to be overweight or unhealthy all because you got dealt a bad hand from your parents? What about other problems, like auto immune diseases, Alzheimers, cancer, and diabetes, which are ravaging our society at an alarming rate—something we should be really paying attention to after age 40? Are your genes charting your destiny?

Enter epigenetics! This word is not merely for science geeks—it means for you that there is something above (epi) your genetics that is even more important than your genes, and that is good news if you are able to take it to heart. You can have sovereign above-control over your genes in at least three life-altering ways.

Food. Whether or not Hippocrates actually said, “Let food be thy medicine” (there is debate), it is a fully true statement! In my free “8 Transformational Strategies Guide,” we covered the whole...

It's Not Your Fault that You're Fat!

Maybe you saw my recent post (Facebook and Instagram) with this picture of Morty, who was a real charmer with the ladies until his death two summers ago.

Morty had a normal kittenhood without any metabolic or weight problems. But something changed a few years into his adulthood. He started getting extra fluffy around the middle. Yep. And was hungry all the time. Uh huh. He started eating frequently and gaining weight so quickly that we had to ration out his food and keep it hidden away most of the day. I get it! And that’s how poor Morty became “Mortifat."

And then there was our other sleek,
slender feline, Pepe. Never a fat day in his life. Never interested in eating more than he needed for basic fuel. Never had to think about cutting back on food, or how his paunch was getting in the way of cleaning his lower half, or how impossible it felt to jump higher than the couch. He was a fit specimen of a cat...
